96% market share. Zero succession plan. Linux runs 96% of the world’s top web servers, every Android device, and essentially all cloud infrastructure. The plan for when Linus Torvalds steps down? “Someone will probably step up.” The 2025 Maintainers Summit confirmed it. Hope is not a governance strategy.

The Numbers That Should Worry Everyone
